Army-Navy: Cadet Blazes His Own Path in Cyber Security

>U.S. Military academy known as west point builds the future leaders in the army but the question how do the young men and women decide what they want to do when they leave?>>Coy wire is here with one cadet who chose to blaze his own path. Did he kind of create this?>>No. As a football player he is make ago first here. At west point you have to wait until your fourth year on campus to decide where you’re going to branch. Some choose infantry. Others choose engineering. But you have Malik Herbie Hancock who is doing something that no other football player has done before and fighting for our country on the cyberfront.>>I wanted to the computer stuff and I knew a cyberbranch coming into the army and my decision to play football couldn’t say no to that.>>It’s the newest branch created in the army since 2014 and created by the army to address the cyber space. I guarantee you soldiers are fighting in cyber space are engaged right now and that is not going to be stop.>>Attention.>>When cadets show up at west point very few know more about this area but that changes even in high school.>>In high school I thought why would he want to go to west point and wear a uniform and structure? I kind of was like, no, the army likes diversity and different thoughts because they want to make great leaders. I thought the cyber branch is a perfect place for that.>>Being an athlete in a college student at west point is extremely difficult.>>They have a lot of responsibilities. The academic requirements, the physical requirements, the professional standards here, playing football, there is a lot. It takes a lot of self-discipline on their part to be able to manage all of it but it also takes a lot of mental toughness.>>When first got here as a freshman we picked majors and you’re asking the upper classmen what major should I choose? I was already set on computer science. They said no football players don’t pick computer science. What are you doing? I feel every major is hard and I’d rather struggle that I have a true passion for. Nights staying up but at the same time, I’d rather be up struggling on a problem with computer programming than a typing a long essay.>>I think athletes that do well and graduate here so so well in the army and become such great officers because they manage their incredibly we will.>>I think cybercrime is a perfect fit for Hershey.>>– Herbie.>>I love it. Army/navy game is two weeks away. You heard them saying in the piece being a student athlete is difficult but at our service academies, such more responsibility and I have such admiration being around those young men and women the last severls.>>Several years.>>That is such profound goodness there.>>Such wisdom coming from on him. They are just special young men and women are so selfless. Their thought is all of us, not themselves.>>Cyber war fare is something it dominates the home front here and what therapy out to protect.>>You think CIA and FBI but now cybersoldiers and army, Navy.
