BA (Hons) Education Studies at the University of West London

The Education Studies course covers a wide
range of issues all related to education and so we look at education from a number of different
perspectives including historical, philosophical sociological, psychological, but also in terms
of policy and we feel that, that gives any student who wishes to go into any area related
to education, not just teaching a broad base across all of those disciplines and an entry
point into a range of professions. We believe in working side by side with students
and not leading students, so therefore once we get to know a student when we know what
they want to do we can put them in touch with a whole range of organisations that kind of
work in parallel with the skills that they’re bringing already to their learning and Education
Studies. We’re thinking about, what are our links
to industry and how can that inform and infuse our thinking, our course development, our
course preparation our course delivery and what that means for the students is that they’ve
got the confidence, that what we’re doing is relevant, what we’re doing is useful,
what we’re doing will actually give them really strong grounding when they come out
of and they’re in the real world. On education studies all of the staff contribute to the
teaching, are research active and that benefits students taking the course because they know
that they have cutting edge insights, information that feeds into their learning. I and everyone I work with on education studies
really hope that firstly and fore-mostly that students really feel that they’ve benefited
from their time being in university, that they’ve developed skills, attributes, confidence and
knowledge of Education Studies that can carry them forward in the future aspirations.
