Bachelor of Social Science with a Major in Behavioural Studies

Swinburne Online offers students a
variety of degrees within psychological sciences, this includes a Bachelor of
Social Science with a Major in Behavioral Studies. We have four core
units to begin with, where students investigate broader issues in
contemporary Australian society, looking at how these interact with Australian
politics. We look at social interaction, so examining how meaning is generated
between individuals and groups. Students are also taught to collect and analyse
data, so they’re able to feel confident in undertaking research in psychology. We also have a range of different electives that are available. So students are able
to complement their studies with additional units in criminology or
psychology or human resource management. Students many may find themselves
working in not-for-profit organisations, so this could involve roles in youth
work or general support roles, aged care or disability. There’s also other
opportunities in government, so for example students may find roles in
policy or research and we also have some opportunities available in private
settings as well, so for example human resource management, health or education. Well the course is three years full time, or a part time equivalent. While
providing students with a solid basis in behavioural studies, it isn’t actually a
direct pathway to becoming an accredited psychologist. However, it can be
particularly useful for students in settings where informal counseling
may be required and how we can also respond and assist when necessary.
