Fashion is continuing to use clothing as a weapon. Colonization is ongoing. People have been trying to erase our culture for so long now we need to look at how do we bring it back? What does cultural resurgence look like? Thinking interdisciplinarily about Indigenous fashion has allowed me to kind of simultaneously look at that history and then also imagine ways to move forward. Canadian immigration policies not only make women vulnerable to violence in their private lives but also keep them entrapped in it. You need to make policy level changes if you want to change the conditions that we are creating for these women. At Ryerson I have experienced a diverse and inclusive environment that allows me to feel accepted and welcomed. Being at Ryerson, it’s not just about doing a degree – it’s about doing your degree and applying that to other areas. The Solar Block project is a project where we’re focusing on developing sustainable urban homes. It has zero carbon impact, it’s going to use zero energy on an annual basis, it has zero toxins embedded in any of the materials in the construction. There was also next to zero waste produced in its construction. I’m interested in mobilizing Anishnabeg intelligence. ..zero carbon impact… …create sustainable homes…
