Engineering Hall – Rowan University – 2018 New Good Neighbor Award Winner

One thing that we know in society is that
there is a demand for engineers and if I can quote Mr. Rowan, “It’s not just we
need engineers, we need great engineers,” so that’s the reason why we need this
program the way that it is. This building allows for our education to be implemented
in a collaborative way and that’s pretty much what modern engineering education
requires. And it accommodates our innovative engineering program and also,
both in teaching and in research. One of the most innovative aspects of this
building is where we are right now. We are in the sustainability laboratory.
This allows us to teach things in a very contemporary way and we all know
sustainability is very important in terms of what we need today in society,
but beyond that we have modern labs and teaching spaces throughout the building
and one of the things which allows us to do is to actually teach in the way that
the program is meant to be taught. For example, we believe in a project-oriented
education and we have, in the building, collaboration rooms, which students can
study and collaborate in. So if you come in the semester you can see a really
bustling place where students gather together in spaces that are theirs and
do project work not just for their classes, but for the engineering clinic,
which is a signature part of our program. You see students here now with the
space that they need to do their work and, on top of that, they have spaces,
collaboration spaces, which facilitate that. I think that’s the greatest compliment,
seeing students do their work, doing it in a productive way and doing things that
they couldn’t do before.
