HMAS Coonawarra Navy Week

HMAS Coonawarra Navy Week

Navy Week is an important element of our engagement with the community. Navy Week allows Navy to demonstrate our thanks to the community that support Navy operations and our families in Darwin
and the broader Northern Territory region. The Navy Band’s contribution to school
visits over the course of the week so far has gone down as a phenomenal success. The kids had a great time, they got up
dancing we had been conducting the Band and of course then we get them all
hyped up and we need to send them back to class. We do a lot of our ceremonies on ships or
on establishments where the general public can’t see them. Here we are at
Middle Beach surrounded by such beautiful food, beautiful stalls,
beautiful people. They can see what the Navy does here. We did a sunset ceremony actually on the beach which was unusual I don’t think any of us had ever done
that before. The support of the people and they are so willing to come and chat and tell you’ve done a great job and they really respect you and thank you for what you do in this job. Navy Week just provides us the
opportunity have Navy uniforms visible in the public sphere to recognise that Darwin is a key part of NT community.
