A military plane carrying Laos defense minister
and other senior officials has crashed in the north of the country.
Officials say the plane came down near the border with Vietnam, nearly 500 kilometers
from the capital Vientiane where the flight departed from.
Eighteen people are thought to have been on board, but no firm word on casualties or the
cause of the crash yet. The group was traveling to take part in the
memorial celebration of a historic battle. State television in Laos has broadcast footage
