Normally when we think about disability we place it in the world of hospitals, and the world of doctors. Disability Studies is about saying, “Well wait a minute, where else does disability exist?” Perhaps there are different, or better ways
that we can think about, interrogate, intervene, and interact with the world of disability. How do we make the world more inclusive? How do we make schools and employment
more accessible? It takes the current situation with disabled people, which is that they are often looked at by
many people in the public and the professinal world as a problem,
something to be fixed. And it flips that on its head. People that find a home within disability studies, are people that look at the world as it is today and say, “I think we can do better” Students like that who have had that experience,
who want to know more about what they can do differently,
find tremendous success in our program.
