Master of Strategic Studies at ANU

♪ [upbeat music] (Felicity) My name
is Felicity Norman. And I’m studying a Masters
of Strategic Studies at ANU. The practical skills that
I’ve gained from this course is an enhanced ability
to think critically, to develop an argument, and also to communicate
that argument clearly. Developing relationships
with the other students has been one of the best
parts of this course. The other students
are often professionals from both the Australian government
and also international governments. This course has given me the
confidence to use these skills in any future endeavour
within the Asia Pacific region. ♪ [music continuous] (Huge) Hugh White, professor
of Strategic Studies at ANU. ♪ [gentle music] I work in the strategic
policy and studies field, and what we do is look at the way in which armed force shapes
the relationships between countries. And what that means for the way
Australia works in the world. There are two things that make
ANU particularly strong in this field. The first is that we work
across the full range of questions, from high level strategic questions to do with international
relations at one end, all the way through military history into detailed work
on actual military operations and the development of capabilities. The second is that
we approach every question not just from an academic
point of view, but also from a practical
point of view. We’re here in Canberra, we work closely with government. We’re always interested
in a practical outcome.
