My Best Choice: John

What’s up Moraine Valley, this is John
Kladis with Jonathan…>>Growing up, I mean, I always, you know, I had my family. I
had both parents, and I had my brothers. I was always more of a geek, you know. I got
really into superheroes, comics, cartoons. You know, I’m wearing a Boy Meets World
shirt right now, so like that kind of shows you. I had my family, but I never
had people who I felt really bonded with me.
I’ve lived in Palos Hills my entire life I was born in Palos Community Hospital.
I went to Stagg High School located in Palos Hills too. Moraine Valley located in
Palos Hills. I’ve been here my whole life, and I was like, I want out. I really
did not want to come to Moraine. I was completely against it. I wanted to
experience something else outside of this small, you know, few mile radius
that I’m so familiar with. Initially what I had anticipated when I came here was
to come to class, go home and then like potentially go to work or something. I
somehow found out about student life and there was an ad saying like looking for
student employees on campus or something. I sat through what was like an hour long
info session and immediately I was like, oh wow, that is definitely something that
interests me. I interviewed for the job, got the job,
and at first I was like alright I’m just gonna do the job and that’s it, but the
job introduced me to a lot of other things and that’s kind of how a lot
changed. When I came into Moraine I was expecting to just go to class and then
go to work. I was like, oh, now I have to go to Ultimate Frisbee club. Now I have
to do Phi Theta Kappa meetings. Now I have to go to art club. Now I’m on the
Forensics Team so I have to go to practice for forensics. It just really
changed my perspective on Moraine because I went from wanting to just come and
leave really quick to like spending a good 12 to 14 hours a day here. Hadn’t I been
involved on campus I would have never known I like, you know, talking to people
and you know public relations. That’s not something that had ever crossed my mind
prior to being at Moraine Valley, but my involvement with Student Life and, you
know, all my different clubs really pushed me into that direction. [The one and only Tim…] I never
had anticipated knowing so many people who have really similar interests to me. [Hey, what’s up Moraine Valley?] I don’t mind staying here on campus for 14 hours because I get to see all these
people and actually enjoy my day, so I found a family here. [music playing]
