Navy Junior Officer Reserve Training Corps Program

HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS THAT PARTICIPATE IN THE
NAVY JUNIOR RESERVE OFFICER TRAINING CORPS PROGRAM TYPICALLY HAVE ASPIRATIONS OF JOINING
THE MILITARY. ONE SUCH STUDENT IS SENIOR QUINTON FISHER.
THE SON OF A RETIRED NAVY CHIEF, HE HAS WORKED LONG AND HARD TO EARN A FULL RIDE SCHOLARSHIP
TO THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA THROUGH NJROTC. THE DEDICATION SEEN IN THIS STUDENT IS A DIRECT
REFLECTION OF THE SUPPORT HE HAS HAD FROM A STRONG FAMILY, ESPECIALLY HIS FATHER EDMUND
FISCHER. “IT’S HARD FOR MY DAD TO BALANCE TRYING
TO TAKE CARE OF ME AND MY LIFE, MY LIFE AS A SENIOR AND GOING TO COLLEGE WITH THE LIVES
OF MY THREE YOUNGER SIBLINGS, BUT HE TRIES HIS BEST AND HE DOES REALLY WELL AND HE TRIES
TO HELP ME OUT IN ALL AREAS OF MY LIFE AND THAT’S THE THING THAT I’M REALLY PROUD
OF.” EDMUND HAS A REPUTATION FOR BEING QUINTON’S
NUMBER ONE FAN AND CAN ALWAYS BE SEEN CHEERING HIS SON ON AT THE DIFFERENT EVENTS HE PARTICIPATES
IN. NOW THAT HIS SON IS ON TRACK TO BECOME A NAVAL
OFFICER, ONE QUESTION REMAINED FOR THE FORMER CHIEF PETTY OFFICER. “THAT’S WHAT I WANTED HIM TO ACHIEVE, SOMETHING
MORE THAN I WAS ABLE TO ACHIEVE. SO, BY HIM OUTRANKING ME, I TOLD HIM WHENEVER HE DOES
BECOME THAT ENSIGN I WILL BE IN UNIFORM, WHETHER I GOT TO LOSE THIRTY POUNDS OR NOT, BUT I
WILL BE IN UNIFORM TO RENDER HIM HIS FIRST SALUTE AND HOPEFULLY HE GIVE ME BACK THE PROPER
SALUTE. SO I JUST FEEL LIKE IT’S A GREAT ACCOMPLISHMENT ON HIM AND A GREAT PUSH ON
HIS MOM AND DAD.” LANCE CPL. TONY NARDIELLO, AFN ROTA
