Nkima Studies Portuguese in Southern Brazil | Columbia Admissions

Bom Dia everybody or good morning from
Brazil! My name is Nkima, I’m a rising junior
in Columbia College studying neuroscience and I’m gonna take you on a day in my life studying abroad this summer in Brazil taking Portuguese
classes. So to start off my day I always wake up eat breakfast with my host
family and I take the bus to school. This morning I’m running a little bit late, so
I’m just gonna call an Uber and go to school but it’s really nice to be able
to get to know the city through its public transit and really feel like a
local. so as a neuroscience major at
Columbia I’ve been really enjoying my time with the Core Curriculum, which is a
set of core course that everyone has to take including a foreign language
requirement. If it were not for this foreign language requirement I
don’t think I would have ever started taking Portuguese and fall in love with
the language and continue to take it and be in Brazil right now.
So back on campus I’m involved with the undergraduate recruitment committee as a
tour guide I’ve anticipate in dance at Barnard as
well as other theatre groups on campus.
