MUSICIANS FROM U.S. NAVAL FORCES EUROPE BAND
AND THE NAPLES CONSERVATORY OF MUSIC TRAINED TOGETHER ON CONDUCTING SKILLS BEFORE PLAYING
A SHOW. THE MUSICIANS SHOWCASED THEIR SKILLS IN FRONT OF A LIVE AUDIENCE IN DOWNTOWN NAPLES. “WE’VE JUST COMPLETED THE CULMINATING EVENT
OF WHAT’S A FOUR MONTH PROJECT. IT’S A CLINIC SERIES WHERE STUDENT CONDUCTORS AND OUR OWN
ENLISTED CONDUCTORS SPEND TIME CONDUCTING A FULL WIND ENSEMBLE UNDER THE TUTELAGE OF
MAESTRO FRANCESCO VIZIOLI OF THE NAPLES CONSERVATORY OF MUSIC.” THE CLINIC SERIES WAS STARTED NEARLY EIGHT
YEARS AGO TO HELP BUILD RELATIONSHIPS AND MUSICAL SKILL. FOR ONE ITALIAN MUSICIAN, MUSIC’S
BINDING ABILITY IS WHAT MAKES IT SO SPECIAL. “IT’S TO UNITE TWO CULTURES, TO UNITE TWO
DIFFERENT WAYS TOO. MUSIC UNITES EVERYONE, AND THIS IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL THING BECAUSE
WE HAVE A UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE WHEN WE’RE TOGETHER, BEYOND THE LANGUAGES AND RACES.” ACCORDING TO ONE MAESTRO WITH 30 YEARS OF
MUSICAL KNOWLEDGE, MUSIC IS THE LANGUAGE EVERYONE CAN UNDERSTAND. “IF TOMORROW, I SHOULD TAKE A PLANE TO TOKYO
OR BEIJING, CHINA, TO MAKE A CONCERT, I DON’T NEED A HUGE VOCABULARY. IT IS ENOUGH THAT
I KNOW 10 WORDS, BECAUSE MUSIC SPEAKS BY ITSELF.” EVEN THOUGH THE MUSICIANS SPEAK DIFFERENT
LANGUAGES, WHEN ON STAGE THEY COMMUNICATE TOGETHER, THROUGH THE SOUND OF MUSIC. PETTY OFFICER MATT WRIGHT. NAPLES, ITALY
