U.S. Navy conducts successful live-fire test of SM-6 ballistic missile interceptor

The U.S. military has test-fired one of its
most advanced ballistic missile interceptors,… the SM-6,… from a warship off the coast
of Scotland. According to a press release from the U.S.
Navy,… the test was conducted on Sunday as part of a drill to defend against potential
missile threats from “rogue states.” Much like THAAD,… its land-based cousin,…
the SM-6 is capable of intercepting ballistic missiles descending at high speeds in the
upper atmosphere. The SM-6 is seen as an important component
of Washington’s arsenal… to counter North Korea’s growing nuclear and ballistic missile
threats.
