University of Kentucky President Lee Todd on Recruiting the Best Researchers & Doctors

Recruiting the Best Doctors and Researchers
to UK Video Text: SOT (President Todd): “Bringing in Mike Karp
from UCLA was Godsend. ” SOT (Dr. Michael Karpf): “He was anxious to
bring other people who would bring skills to Kentucky to help the Commonwealth.” SOT (President Todd): “We just started to
get a critical mass of highly capable people.” SOT (Dr. Michael Karpf): “That was important
for Kentucky, Kentucky has trained some excellent folks and kept some excellent folks on faculty,
but it was important to intermix with those people, folks who trained outside of Kentucky
and had some different experiences. That creates a dynamic environment, rather than this is
the way we do stuff in Kentucky and Lee was all about that. Lee, I think, felt very proud
and I think he thought he very much benefited away from Kentucky, his time at MIT, his time
at his own company, he felt that that gave him some broader insights, a broader vision
that he could bring back to Kentucky and so he was anxious to bring other people with
other skills to Kentucky to help the Commonwealth.” ####
